End-of-Life Services

What is an End-of-Life Doula?

A doula is a human who holds space for other humans. An end-of-life doula practices this before, during and after death. We are advocates and resources for death care that dying people and their families may need.

Creating Space That Encourages Love

Companionship at the end of our lives can be fleeting and advocacy can be even more so. As an end-of-life doula I believe it’s crucial to discover my clients wants and needs. I aim to empower them to have the death they want. It is also important their circle of care is informed of theses desires. As a daughter of aging parents, I know that sometimes a third party or someone more removed from the family can be highly helpful to reveal unknown needs without possible familial complications.

Presence

As a family member of a dying person, we are often focused on the now, becoming very present. Thinking about what comes next may seem daunting.

In the role of a doula, I offer resources, planning and support for many areas post death. This allows family to stay in the now.

Knowledge is Power

Education is a staple of my doula practice. I believe when things are demystified and explained with plain and open language, we are far less likely to be afraid. As a mother, I use clarifying language and conversations regularly. Having knowledge about the dying process holds great power in defining our last days. Knowing that this experiencing is normal and a part of the labor of death can often bring peace to those who are nervous or afraid of letting go.

I Come Equipped

Training with INELDA or the International End-of-Life Doula Association has given me the opportunity to dig deep into how I can hold space and show up for individuals in need.

My approach is intentional and respectful to the client and the entire circle of care, which may have many facets. When I am invited into the home for a doula service it is my absolute honor to serve during this sacred time. My main objective is simply to be what is needed in the moment.
